6 Questions to Ask Before Building Your Microgrid

May 5, 2016
If you were in a room with others who have gone through the process of building a microgrid, what questions would you ask them? Here are 6 good questions to get your microgrid plans started.

There are so many questions to ask before building your microgrid. There are plenty of experienced consultants and vendors who are happy to speak with you, and you should interview them. Yet, wouldn’t it be great to sit in a room with other energy customers who have gone through the process of building a microgrid so you could speak freely and learn from those who have been there?

You are in luck because Microgrid Knowledge is making this opportunity a reality. We are hosting a special break-out session ‘just for customers’ at the Microgrid Conference Series, 3:30 p.m., May 19 in New York City at the The Millennium Broadway. The session is called: “Road Map for Developing Microgrids: Lessons Learned and Pitfalls to Avoid from Customers Who Have Been There”

This panel session will be moderated by Brad Tito, the program manager of NYSERDA Communities & Local Governments. His panelist have been asked to answer questions like:

  1. How do you find microgrid developers, vendors and consultants?
  2. What should you consider when thinking about installing a microgrid for your community or operation?
  3. What are the opinions of people further along in microgrid adoption?
  4. How should you navigate regulations?
  5. How can you sell the idea to upper management?
  6. How will you be able to finance a microgrid?

There will be many vendors and consultants at this day-long conference for you to speak with. Yet, this session will be vendor free so you can speak candidly with other microgrid owners and operators. The panel will include people who’ve been where you are now with several of the same questions: The panelist include:

  • Matt Alexander, Mayor of the Village of Wappinger Falls, NY
  • Edward Bogucz, Syracuse Center of Excellence, Associate Professor
  • Scott Kessler, the Brooklyn Microgrid

If you would like to attend the full-day conference you can register here. If you are not able to attend the full-day conference, yet are interested in attending this special breakout session, email [email protected] to see if you qualify for a special customer break-out session rate.

Can’t make the conference? Well you are still in luck. You can find many free resources on this website that will help you develop your microgrid strategy including the Microgrid Knowledge special reports and our white paper library.
