Dan Ton, of the U.S. Department of Energy, will be the keynote speaker at the Microgrid Controller Symposium on Oct. 1, 2015 at District Hall in Boston, Mass.

Ton is the program manager in the DOE’s Power Systems Engineering Research and Development Office, Electricity Delivery and Reliability (DOE OE).

The event is sponsored by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, in partnership with the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, National Grid, IEEE PES Boston Chapter, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Office (DHS S&T) and the DOE OE.

The symposium will bring together microgrid controller developers, energy infrastructure decision makers, utility representatives, as well as state and national energy leaders.

Vendors will demonstrate the functionality of their controllers on the HIL test platform developed by MIT-LL as part of the DOE OE microgrid program and DHS S&T energy resilience efforts.

The goal is to introduce the latest developments in microgrid controller technology and standards, demonstrate functionality of existing microgrid controllers, and foster connections between microgrid developers and distribution utilities in Massachusetts.

The event will include a presentation on modeling tools – developed in collaboration between DHS S&T and DOE OE – used for the design and economic analysis of microgrid sites in the City of Boston.

Dan Ton will speak on Microgrid Concepts and Controls – Smart Grid to Smart City, introducing the DOE OE microgrid program and explaining its importance as a resource for microgrid development in Massachusetts.
