California Energy Commission to Issue $120M in Solicitations for Energy Resiliency, Smart Grid, Efficiency, Grid Planning

The California Energy Commission plans to issue solicitations for energy resiliency, smart grid, and other energy technology and programs totaling more than $120 million in the second half of 2015.

Below is a listing of the planned solicitations, expected date of release, and amount of money to be offered.

• Conduct Energy Research Gap Assessment and Roadmapping; July 2015 – September 2015; $3 million
• Reduce the Environmental and Public Health Impacts of Electricity Generation and Make the Electricity System Less Vulnerable to Climate Impacts: Phase II; July 2015 – September 2015; $8.5 million
• Sustainable Energy Entrepreneur Development (SEED) Initiative; July 2015 – September 2015; $16 million
• Regional Energy Innovation Clusters; July 2015 – September 2015; $8 million
• Clean Energy Research, Technology Showcase, and Policy Forums; July 2015 – September 2015; $1 million
• Measuring Innovation Progress to Guide Future Investment; July 2015 – September 2015; $1 million
• Establish Strategies for Enhanced Local Regulatory Assistance and Permit Streamlining that will Accelerate Deployment of Clean Energy; July 2015 – September 2015; $17.3 million
• Connecting Emerging Technologies and Strategies to Market Needs and Opportunities; July 2015 – September 2015; $3 million
• Developing Technologies, Tools, and Strategies to Enable the Smart Grid of 2020; July 2015 – September 2015; $8 million
• Guiding Future Energy Needs, Plans, and Programs through Commercial End-Use Surveys; July 2015 – September 2015; $8 million
• Reducing Costs for Communities and Business through Integrated Demand-Side Management and Zero-Net Energy Demonstrations; August 2015 – October 2015; $3 million
• Technology Demonstration and Deployment; August 2015 – October 2015; $20 million
• Developing New Technologies and Applications that Enable cost-beneficial Customer-Side -of-the-Meter Energy Choices; August 2015 – October 2015; $16.4 million
• Developing a Portfolio of Advanced Efficiency Solutions (Phase 2); September 2015 – November 2015; $7 million
• Developing Operational Tools, Models, and Simulations to Improve Grid Resource Planning; October 2015 – December 2015; amount to be determined.

The commission also has more than $20 million in active solicitations underway,  including a $9 million offering that seeks job training proposals for projects that offer long-term energy efficiency gains in the buildings. Bids close July 29.
