WATTMORE, Eos Celebrate 12-MWh Zinc-based Battery Storage for Nebraska City's Downtown Grid

The collaboration combines WATTMORE’s Intellect control system with Eos’s zinc-based Z3 batteries, creating a comprehensive energy management platform for microgrids, supporting diverse applications from community grids to data centers.

Microgrid control and energy intelligence software platform WATTMORE and battery manufacturer Eos Energy Enterprises have completed construction of a 3-MW/12-MWh energy storage project Nebraska utility Lincoln Electric System.

The zinc-based, long-duration battery system from Eos will serve the nearby community grid, including downtown Lincoln, in both outage response and grid services. WATTMORE’s Intellect Operate control system software will be able to handle energy management duties.

In addition to the municipal utility, WATTMORE has worked on battery storage development for four years with investment firm Bridge Renewables, now Apollo Capital. The two-year construction phase teamed the company with Eos Energy Enterprises, which supplies the American-made zinc battery systems. Commissioning is expected shortly.

Eos installed its Z3 batteries which are built around a non-flammable aqueous zinc chemistry. Last year, the energy storage firm supplied its 15-MWh Z3 system to a Faraday Microgrids’ project for the Paskenta Band tribal project in northern California.

This week, Colorado-based WATTMORE and Eos Energy Enterprises announced a separate long-term strategy collaborating in uniting the software and hardware for energy storage projects. The agreement will combine WATTMORE’s Intellect energy management system and data acquisition platform with the EOS Z3 batteries.

Battery storage is growing in adoption for a variety of energy solutions, including AI data centers, microgrids and grid support projects.
