Microgrids and DERs Front and Center at Oregon Solar & Storage Industries Association Conference in May

The Oregon Solar & Storage Industries Association’s annual conference, May 13-15 in Portland, will include panels about microgrids, legislation, dynamic rates and virtual power plants.

The 2025 Oregon Solar & Storage Industries Association (OSSIA) conference, May 13-15 at Crowne Plaza Portland will include a microgrid panel, legislation updates that include a microgrid bill and a keynote speaker who will focus on distributed power plants.

Here are some of the events of interest to microgrid and distributed power industry members:

May 14:

  • Microgrids: Addressing Power Outages with Solar and Storage. Panel includes Shannon Souza, Sol Coast Design, Mark Crowdis, 127 Energy and Karina Hershberg, PAE Consulting Engineers. The panel will cover regulatory barriers, including the challenges of deploying microgrids for multi-family housing, Hershberg said in an interview. Financing will also be addressed, she said.
  • Keynote speaker Shannon Anderson, virtual power plant policy director, Solar United Neighbors, will address “Opportunity for Distributed Power Plants in Oregon.”
  • Data Centers: How Do We Make Energy Demand Green? Amy Berg-Pickett, Sunstone Energy, Sidney Villenueva, Blue Skies Law.
  • Tribal Renewable Energy Transition: Collaborations in Oregon: David Harper, 7Skyline, Stone Hudson, Meyer Memorial Trust, Cathy Ehli, Warm Springs Power and Water Enterprises, Kevin Lo, Hewlett Packard.

 May 15:

  • Making Virtual Power Plants a Reality in Oregon: Klye Armitrage, Greentech Renewables, William Comeau, Pacificorp, Shannon Anderson, Solar United Neighbors, Franco Albi, Portland General Electric.
  • Federal Policy Updates: Tax Credits and Grants: Ryan Sheehy, Fleet Development, Erin Duncan, Solar Energy Industries Association, M. John Way, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.
  • Timing is Everything: How to Make Dynamic Rates Work for Installers, Josh Keeling UtilityAPI.
