Hybrid Microgrid to Provide 25 MW of Power for Southern California Manufacturing Campus

The system combines 12 MW/60 MWh of battery storage, onsite generation and 3.5 MW of emergency backup, with 25 MW of capacity targeted within nine months of contract execution.

A 25-MW hybrid microgrid is being deployed at a commercial and industrial campus in Southern California to provide power for an advanced manufacturing tenant while the site awaits a permanent utility grid upgrade.

Industrial power solutions provider Critical Loop is supplying the system at a campus owned by SRG COMMERCIAL. The project is designed to address a gap between the tenant's planned commercial operation date in early 2027 and the utility's timeline for providing sufficient grid capacity.

The 18-month deployment is designed to deliver 25 MW of total capacity within nine months of contract execution and remain in operation until the campus receives its permanent grid upgrade.

The local utility connection currently provides approximately 7 MW of firm capacity and an additional 2 MW through a flexible service connection. The hybrid microgrid will supplement that capacity through a combination of battery storage and onsite generation.

The system will include 12 MW/60 MWh of battery energy storage, which will serve as the primary source of supplemental power. Onsite generation will provide additional capacity when needed, while 3.5 MW of dedicated emergency backup generation will support system reliability.

Critical Loop's CLB-5100 Power System will manage the deployment through its Cygnus controller software. The system controls power imports, manages battery charging and discharging based on real-time site loads, and maintains a consistent power profile for the tenant's operations.

Cygnus holds UL 3141 and IEEE 2030.5 certifications and has completed interoperability testing with Pacific Gas and Electric, according to Critical Loop.

The project is the first public deployment of Critical Loop's Power-Ready Industrial Portfolio model with SRG COMMERCIAL. The companies also have a two-year agreement naming Critical Loop SRG's preferred microgrid partner across Southern California.

The agreement is intended to support additional projects across SRG's regional development portfolio, addressing power availability constraints for industrial tenants.
